Q & A

Power yoga

Power yoga is a strong practise, dynamic, creative vinyasa flow often paired with the more structured asanas from the ashtanga family. Expect to sweat as each pose leads into the next, helping to improved strength and vigour of the whole self. Some sequences will lead to a ‘peak’ posture whilst others offer a full body opening - all classes are varied and engaging to stretch and challenge the body and mind.

Yin yoga

Yin yoga is a much slower, grounded practise, the opposite of the more yang flows seen in power or standard vinyasa sequencing. Expect to hold floor based postures for around 3/5 mins in order to find a deeper stretch for a greater release. Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body - tendons, facia and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.
A more mediative approach to yoga, great if you need to unwind and stretch.

What is a Layered practice ?

Seen mostly in the Water Series, a layered practise or ladder flow is when a sequence is repeated throughout the class. Each time the sequence is repeated a new line of asana is added to it, increasing the strength, flexibility or building further complexity into the whole practise.
Stacked movements used to create a strong, sweaty and fun practice!

guided Meditation

Meditation is an ancient and increasingly popular practice of mental concentration and relaxation. A guided meditation is shaped by another person’s voice, which helps to relief stress providing direction and focus for both new and experienced practitioners. (The mind has a tendency to wander where it will, many of us find it easier to focus and relax when our minds aren’t entirely left to their own devices).

I’m a beginner which classes are for me?

Most the classes on this platform are ‘open level’ which means that anyone can give them a go! I am not a huge fan of categorising classes as all beginners/regular practitioners have different preferences - some looking for light flows others wanting more challenging movements. If you are looking for something gentle try some yin yoga classes or slow flows. At the moment I have not put any beginners flows on this site but if your up for the challenge give a layered water class a go. I always give optional cues in my classes, either take an easier variation or go nuts and jump into a handstand, at the end of the day it is your choice and your own personal responsibly of where you take your practise. If you have questions after your class please feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Where do I buy equipment from mats, blocks etc?

I find the best place to buy blocks and straps etc is from www.yogamatters.com they have a great selection and reasonably priced. If your a yoga teacher you also get a great discount! Yoga mats… there is so much out there. The best sticky mats I have are from Lululemon or some lovely eco friendly ones come from Carrot Banana Peach their Jute yoga mats are lovely.
